FreeRadius'un bir kaç tane authorization seçeneği var. Dosyadan okutarak veya MySQL, PostgreSQL, MSSQL gibi bir database kullanarak yapabilirsin. Ama bunlardan önce FreeRadius'dan bilgi sorabilecek client'ları "clients.conf" içinde tanımlaman gerek. Yani SSH için auth yapacak switchlerini. Ondan sonra da dosyadan auth yapacaksan "users" içine user ve pass bilgilerini girip, "radiusd.conf"ta "file" kullanımını açman gerekiyor. Yok eğer database kullanacaksan database'ini oluşturup "radcheck" tablosuna user ve pass bilgilerini girip, "radiusd.conf"ta SQL ile authentication seçeneklerini seçmen gerekiyor.
